Me llamo Johanys Alvarez y soy la maestra de español en la escuela St. Edward.
Llevo 5 años enseñando español a estudiantes desde pre- escolar a octavo grado. En julio de 2004 mi esposo
y yo llegamos desde Puerto Rico a radicarnos en Iowa. En Puerto Rico fui maestra de historia desde el año 2002 a 2004
y en estos momentos estoy terminando una maestria en Historia de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Tenemos una niña de 18 meses
llamada Victoria. Me encanta cocinar, ver televisión en español e ir de tiendas. Me siento afortunada de pertenecer
a esta hermosa comunidad y de poder compartir mi cultura e idiomas con mis estudiantes.
My name is Johanys Alvarez and I am the Spanish teacher in St. Edward
School. This is my fifth year teaching Spanish from Pre- school to eighth grade. In July 2004 my husband and I moved here
from Puerto Rico. From 2002 to 2004 I was a History teacher and now I am working on my Masters in History of Puerto Rico and
the Caribbean. We have a 18 month old daughter named Victoria. I love to cook, watch Spanish tv and go shopping. I feel so
fortunate to be part of this great community and to be able to share my culture and my language with my students.
